KandL Consultancy is a training and consultation provider working primarily with businesses and charities looking to enter the justice sector.
The firm was launched in August 2023 by Lee Johnson, who has an extensive background of offering support within the justice sector, including as a prison officer, a training provider for offenders and as a consultant for the large training provider Elite Project Services.
He has since gained a wealth of experience offering training and development opportunities for current and ex-offenders, including a venture with Fred Sirieix called The Right Course, which brought hospitality training into prisons, and similarly with Marco Arrigo of Illy Coffee to bring barista and coffee roasting skills to inmates too.
Lee said: “It was during my time as a prison officer that I became interested in the power of education to reach those that were the hardest to reach. In the later projects I participated in or pioneered in my career, the aim was always to level the playing field for ex-offenders to compete in the job market. It’s this passion and experience that pushed me to start KandL Consultancy, helping other organisations to achieve the same objective as the one I had.”
With KandL Consultancy, he continues to provide packages for ex-offenders or those in custody to support them in work by providing education and training opportunities and connecting them up with organisations looking to recruit from the sector.
Soon after founding his business, Lee joined coworking space The_Track after his partner, who was already a member, recommended it to him.
Lee said: “It’s been a huge improvement to working from home. The atmosphere in the hub is calm, yet there’s such a supportive community of like-minded people around you and there’s always lots going on.
“The_Track has definitely nurtured my growth since I launched. I started with one client in August and I now have four, and I’m in talks with a further three. I’ve also secured over £500,000 in contracts and funding for my clients over the seven months which makes me very proud to say, and the support I’ve received as a member has absolutely pushed me towards achieving that.”
