Join us to celebrate the freelancer community as we release our newest report: ‘What if there were no freelancers?’

March 14 2024
Freelancers make up a huge part of our communities across all of our hubs, and they are an ever-growing collective of professionals from a range of industries across the country.

All sectors rely on freelancers; there are more freelancers than all the people employed by the UK’s largest employer – the NHS, and together they touch every part of our economy. Agile by nature, they work with individuals, charities, SMEs and international businesses alike – providing that human-centred approach that gives them an advantage over the bigger beasts of our industries.

With the flexibility that can sometimes define freelancers comes value – every customer to a freelancer is special, and with that comes a greater level of service that’s intrinsic to a sense of purpose. The majority of freelancers do what they do because they want to make a positive difference, and so often that’s easier to do without the compromise of being a small cog in a big machine.

Yet, despite the fact that this community is so important in our world, we know that freelancers can be massively underappreciated and underestimated on a larger scale, especially by large corporations and governments.

Our soon-to-be-released paper, ‘What if there were no freelancers?’, highlights the huge role freelancers play within the economy and the importance of supporting this specific group of business people.

We’re hosting a launch event for the paper on Wednesday 20 March at The_Track between 9am to 10:30 and we’d love for as many people as possible to join us, whether you’re a freelancer, TownSq member or neither! There’ll be breakfast, networking and, of course, we’ll be chatting all things freelancer and introducing the paper, which will be published on the same day.

We’re delighted to be sharing TownSq’s paper with our community next week. The message is massively important and we’re encouraging anyone with an interest in freelancing to come in on Wednesday and join the conversation.

As always, there will be an opportunity to connect with like-minded people, share insights and, of course, grab a breakfast bite. Anyone who attends who isn’t already a member at the hub will also get a free day pass to spend the rest of the day working from the hub. We hope to see you there!
