We have recently been ever so lucky to have Russell and Rachael join us in one of our meeting rooms – if you have had the pleasure of meeting them both, you’ll know what a glorious pair they are!
Our meeting room occupants not only teach British Sign Language, but they too are deaf, which highlighted that not only myself, but lots of others hadn’t had much (if any) exposure to those who are deaf, and it made me feel incredibly guilty.
This, coupled with Deaf Awareness Week’s (1-7 May) theme this year being Deaf Inclusion (highlighting how hearing loss impacts every day life and how others can support deaf people) has made me more determined than ever to gain some awareness around what it means to be deaf in today’s world.
Rachael is very kindly running a Deaf Awareness workshop here at The_Track next month, so if you’d like to join me, send Russell and Rachael an email to let them know you’re coming!
